Every mum knows the feeling. You've packed what feels like half the house, hauled it across a scorching car park, and still somehow forgotten the one thing you needed. Pool days with little ones are joyful chaos — and the difference between a great one and a stressful one often comes down to what's in your bag.
Here's our honest, tried-and-tested pool bag edit for mums of babies and toddlers.
The non-negotiables
Rashie or full-coverage swimwear — and yes, we're biased, but a Toggie that zips open for a quick nappy change at the pool's edge has saved more than a few mums from the dreaded "carry a soaking wet child to the change room" shuffle. UV protection is built in, and it's one less thing to pack.
Swim nappies. At least three. They hold less than you think, and children have an uncanny ability to need a change the moment you've just settled in.
A large hooded towel. The days of wrestling a small, shivering toddler into a tiny towel are real and they are character-building.
A mesh bag for wet things. Your future self will thank you. Dumping a dripping swim nappy into your main bag alongside your phone and your keys is a rite of passage you only do once.
Snacks. More snacks than you think. Then double it. Toddlers burn through energy in the water like they're training for the Olympics, and hunger hits approximately four minutes after you've settled on your towel.
The "leave it at home" list
The full bottle of sunscreen. Decant it. You don't need 500ml for a two-hour pool trip and your back will agree.
The backup outfit with seventeen buttons. Nobody is wrestling buttons at the pool. Easy-on, easy-off only.
The nice tote bag. Sand and chlorine are not kind to nice things. This is a dedicated pool bag situation.
One game-changer tip
Pre-pack your pool bag the night before and keep it ready by the door. The biggest barrier to getting out of the house with small kids isn't effort — it's decision fatigue at 9am. A bag that's always ready means pool days happen more often.
